Dr Nyda Fourie (CEO/ Research Investigator)
Nyda is a medical practitioner and is involved in a private drug and toxicology consultation service (South African Drug and Toxicology Trust) since 2001. She is a co-founder and trustee of the trust, and is actively involved in the service rendering of the practice. She obtained her MB ChB (1988) and masters degree in Family Medicine (Cum Laude - 1992). Nyda was part of the Department of Pharmacology (Free State University) from 1994 - 2000, first as Clinical Pharmacologist and lecturer, and later as senior Clinical Pharmacologist and lecturer. Nyda has experience as clinical investigator in phase II and III trials.
In rendering a drug and toxicology consultation service for many years, considerable expertise in these fields was gained. Her liaison network with the specialist physicians is regarded as a huge asset for IATROS International and is utilized for patient recruitment.
Dr Johann Terblanche (Research Investigator)
Johann is a medical practitioner with a MB ChB degree obtained in 1975 from the University of Pretoria. Johann spent 16 years in private practice and thereafter joined the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine at the Free State University as Lecturer and Chief Medical Officer. He then joined the Farmovs Clinical Research Centre in 1996 as Director Clinical Services. Johann then progressed through several leadership positions to become Unit Head, Early Phase Drug Development, Parexel in 2007 and joined IATROS International in 2017.
Sr Annelise Hurter (Research Nurse / Study Coordinator)
Annelise Hurter is a registered nurse with a BSoc Sc (Hons) nursing degree which she obtained in 1987 from the University of the Free State. She has 19 years experience in contract research and oncology nursing, and has been Site Study Coordinator for a variety of Clinical studies over the years.
She has a special interest in Oncology Studies.
Sr Alieske Coetzee (Research Nurse / Quality Assurance)
Sister Alieske has 19 years experience in clinical research (Bioequivalence / Phase III and IV studies), initially as a project nurse, later as study monitor and quality co-ordinator. She has performed internal and external monitoring on all study-related documents and processes throughout the duration of trials. Alieske also conducted Quality Control (QC) and compliance checks on deliverables and has assisted operational staff to develop and implement operational QC processes. She has experience in the verification of the accuracy and completeness of data generated during study conduct. Alieske’s qualifications include a nursing diploma, and diplomas in aviation medicine, junior management as well as total quality management.
Billey Breytenbach (Clinical Technologist)
Billey Breytenbach (Clinical Technologist)
Billy was born in Vanderbijlpark, and matriculated from “Hoërskool Schweizer-Reneke” in 2003. He completed his B Tech degree in Clinical Technology at the Central University of the Free State in 2008. Billy has a special interest in Pulmonology and the diagnosis of sleep disorders through polysomnograghy. From 2007 to 2008 he completed his practical training in Pulmonology. Billy was also head of the sleep laboratory at Universitas Hospital (part of the Academic Hospital Complex of the Free State University) from qualifying in 2008 until the middle of 2010. Since then Billy has been working in the private sector in Pulmonology, and manages his own private Sleep Laboratory. He has been involved in contract research with Iatros International for the last two years.
Sr Reinet Lourens (Project Manager and Administrative Manager)
She was born in Vanderbijlpark, Studied at UFS and obtained her Hon B Soc Sc (Nursing) degree in 1985. She has 19 years Clinical Research experience. She worked for 10 years at Farmovs-Parexel in Bio-equivalent research studies, clinical studies and also as quality coordinator prior taking a new position as Study Coordinator at Wits Health Consortium at PHRU in Soweto for 6 years.
Sr Rita van Rooyen (Registered Nurse / Patient Recruitment)
Rita is a registered nurse with a B Soc Sc (Hons) nursing degree which she obtained in 1998 from the University of the Free State, and a B Soc Sc Nursing M degree in Intensive Care that she obtained in 2001 from the same University. Before becoming involved in nursing, she did military training at the SA Women’s College in George.
Rita worked as a registered nurse at Universitas Hospital from 1998 to 2001, and from September 2001 until 2007 at Rosepark Hospital. After that she worked at “Navitas Occupational Health and Wellness” in Bloemfontein for 3 years. Since October 2011 she has been involved with patient recruitment at Iatros International.
Sr Antonette Swanepoel (Registered Nurse / Recruitment Officer)
Antonette is a registered nurse with a Diploma in nursing which she obtained in 1995 from VKOVS. Antonette worked as a registered nurse at MediClinic Bloemfontein from 1995 to 2000 in Maternity, ward,High Care and ICU. In 2000 she became involved in clinical research as a Study Coordinator for a variety of Clinical studies. January 2015 she was appointed as a Recruitment Officer at Iatros International.

Annelie was born in Bloemfontein and had the privilege to be one of the first grade 12 class scholars of Sand du Plessis High school. After careers in the banking industry, she joined Quintiles to do data entry work and was promoted to Clinical Data Coordinator. In October 2016 she became part of the IATROS Team as data-capturer. She is also responsible for laboratory results as required and assists with reception duties. Currently she is gaining experience in the quality control field.
Lorinda Loubser (Pharmacist)
Studied at Potchefstroom University for the BSc Pharm degree. Worked at Pelonomi Hospital, various Wholesalers and did locums for a few pharmacies in Bloemfontein. Husband owned a retail shop for 33 years and though she did not work there full time, she was the official backup for all the events. Started at Iatros in 2012.
Dr Nico van der Merwe (Cardiologist)
After completing his scholastic education in Port Elizabeth, Dr van der Merwe started his medical studies at the University of the Free State in 1982, and obtained the degree MB ChB cum laude in 1986. After completion of national service, he started specializing in internal medicine at the Free State University and gained the degree M Med cum laude in 1994. During the same year he also passed the exam of the College of Medicine of SA and was admitted as member. From 1995 to 2000 Dr van der Merwe practiced as general internist at the Hoëveld Medi-Clinic, Trichardt, whereafter he resumed his cardiological studies in Bloemfontein. After completion of this, he and his family moved to Belgium in 2003 where he qualified himself further in heart rhythm disturbances at UZ Gasthuisberg Leuven. After his return he filled the post of first specialist in the Dept. of Cardiology, University of the Free State, until the beginning of 2006 when he entered private cardiology practice.
Dr Braam Barnard (Cardiologist)
Dr Barnard obtained his MB ChB degree and his M Med (Internal Medicine) from the University of the Free State respectively in 1996 and 2002. He continued with his Fellowship in Cardiology which he completed in 2007 and also obtained a certificate in Cardiology from the College of Medicine South Africa in 2009. He was part of the Dept. of Cardiology, University of the Free State from 2004 to 2010. In 2010 he started practising in Mediclinic Bloemfontein Hospital as cardiologist in the private sector.
Dr Jaco Cilliers (Neurologist)
Jaco obtained his MB ChB degree from the Free State University in 2001, after which he completed his internship at the Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in East London in 2002. He completed his community service at the Military Hospital in Potchefstroom in 2003 and worked as resident medical officer at the “Cape Medical Services” in the UK for 13 months thereafter. From April 2005 until Feb 2010 he worked as registrar in the departments of Internal Medicine and Neuroloy at the Free State Academic Hospital Complex in Bloemfontein. He obtained his M Med Neurology degree from the Free State University and his FC Neurology from the College of Medicine, South Africa in, 2009. Since 2010 he has been practicing as specialist neurologist in the private sector at the Mediclinic Bloemfontein hospital. He has been involved with Iatros International as investigator from the middle of 2011.
Dr Sandra Bonnet (Oncologist)
Dr Sandra Bonnet obtained her MB ChB degree from the University of the Free State (UOFS) in 1984, and her M Med (Rad T) degree, cum laude, from the UOFS in 1992. She has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of lymphoma. Her most recent publications include:

Dr Chris Ebersöhn (Specialist Physician)
Dr Chris Ebersöhn obtained his B Sc degree from the University of Pretoria in 1995 and his MB ChB from the University of Stellenbosch in 2001. He completed his internship in the Academic Hospital Complex in Bloemfontein and did his community service in the Jagersfontein hospital in 2003. He then worked as clinical assistant in the Dept of Internal Medicine at the Free State University and obtained his M Med (Int Med) in 2007. From February 2008 to August 2008 he practiced as specialist physician in the Wilgeheuwel Life hospital in Roodepoort, before returning to Bloemfontein. He has been in private practice in Mediclinic Bloemfontein Hospital from September 2008.
Dr Riaan Flooks (Specialist Physician / Nephrologist)
Dr Riaan Flooks completed his pre-graduate studies (MB ChB) at the Medical University of South Africa in 1998 and completed his internship in the Port Elizabeth Provincial hospital. His community service year was done in Umtata General Hospital and All Saints Hospitals. In 2001 he worked as medical officer in the Livingstone hospital in Port Elizabeth and then as registrar in the Universitas and Pelonomi Academic hospital complexes. In 2005 he obtained his M Med degree in Internal Medicine from the Free State University. He did a fellowship in Nephrology in Universitas Hospital and worked as senior specialist in nephrology in the Universitas and Pelonomi hospitals. He obtained a Certificate in Nephrology in 2008 from the College of Southern Africa and has been in private practice in the Mediclinic Bloemfontein Hospital since 2009.
Dr Philip Hutton (Specialist Physician)
Dr Philip Hutton matriculates at Grey College Bloemfontein as Dux pupil. He obtains his MB ChB from the University of the Free State in 1991, and obtained several academic awards during his study years. He works in the Dept of Internal Medicine for three years, 3 Military Hospital as medical officer and part of the permanent force with the rank of major. He completes his post-graduate studies (M Med Int Med) at the University of the Free State in 1998 and receives academic colors. For the last ten years he has been working as a specialist physician in the private sector in Mediclinic Bloemfontein Hospital. His field of interest includes among others intensive care, pulmonology, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, rheumatology.
